The StartUP Network will meet again on 22nd September, 2009 with guest speaker Michelle Hardwick talking about how NLP can provide solutions to the 5 basic needs of entrepreneurs. Creating success as an entrepreneur is more about YOU, than it is about your product or business. Jim Rohn states “Work harder on yourself than you do on your business” and that’s a core premise that will flow through the StartUP Network events, alongside other knowledge and tools you will need to establish and grow your business.

What is NLP?

NLP is a way of thinking and a method for achieving excellence in life. Its structure comes from modelling people who have already achieved success in many different areas. You can transfer these ways of thinking, doing and being to your life to achieve results – modelling. The three areas typically modelled in NLP are

language – words used and structure of language
physiology – use of body
thinking, beliefs and values, unconscious and conscious

NLP has an efficient toolkit of techniques to help you do this.

Michelle ran an NLP practice in Dunedin for 10 years prior to moving to the UK where she now lives travelling extensively throughout UK and Australasia teaching people about NLP, hypnotherapy and EFT. She is in Dunedin briefly before returning to the UK.

The StartUP Network is the latest innovation from Upstart Business Incubator providing support, knowledge and connections to budding entrepreneurs as they turn their ideas and concepts into businesses. The network is independent of business incubation and will provide the best budding entrepreneurs with a foot in the door for the Entrepreneur Development Programme where they are paid a scholarship to live on for up to 2 years while they build their business and have access to incubator resources and connections.

The launch event was attended by 14 people who were introduced to the concept of Wealth Dynamics with the guest speaker John Owens who is a Wealth Dynamics Master Practitioner. The concept behind Wealth Dynamics is that each of us has particular thinking and behavioural dynamics and we should build our business with that in mind. Understanding wealth dynamics provides entrepreneurs with an understanding of the cycle of business, who’s needed on the team, and how to create wealth from their business.

The next meeting will be in September when we’ll be exploring some usually misunderstood dimensions of leadership. Budding entrepreneurs are able to join the network at any stage by emailing lisam@upstart.org.nz and requesting an application form.
